Breaking Bad - "Say My Name" - A Review

No one is safe.

I have come to the conclusion that any one, and I mean ANYONE that comes into contact with Walter White has a death wish.

This episode was not an exception.

With one episode left to go before the mid-season break, this show has decided that they were going to push the envelope even further than they already have, and that NO character is safe from Heisenberg.

Walter is taking drastic steps to build his empire while everything seems to be crumbling around everyone else. Nothing and no one will get in his way, and no one has clean hands anymore.

If this is how he is going to handle the first half of the final season, Vince Gilligan is ready to point a nuclear warhead at our face for the finale and press that shiny red button.

I don't think that I am alone in the sentiment that BREAKING BAD is the greatest show on television right now. Hands down.

Copper - "Husbands and Fathers" - A Review

I am still not quite sure what to make of this program.

The new BBC America show COPPER likes to really push the envelope and I enjoy that as much as the next person but I am really wondering if it's for story purposes or if they see that as the only way to compete with a show like BREAKING BAD.

In the second episode, the sad tale of the poor girl Annie continues to unfold as more players enter the arena in regards to her future.

They don't let up on the violence at all as misfortune strikes Det. Corcoran, which leads to a very, VERY shocking ending to the episode.

I wish I could be glowing about this program but the jury is still out on it for me.

This is either DEADWOOD's least violent episode, or LAW & ORDER's most violent. That being said, I think the set pieces are wonderful, the acting is magnificent and the atmosphere is great. I just don't know if the show knows what it wants to be yet.

The Newsroom - "The Greater Fool" (Season Finale Review)

I am not afraid to admit, when promos for this show first started airing, I was not on board for the ride.

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Sorkin's work, but not on the level some folks may be. I appreciate his work and think that SPORTS NIGHT was some of his best stuff (I say this having never seen The West Wing). So granted, my opinion my be skewed just a tad.

I watched the first episode, against what I felt was my better judgement, and I am glad that I did. This is one of the best written and performed shows on television today and I almost passed it up.

The season finale was no exception. Just when you think they have the person who threatened Will nailed to the wall, things only get worse. Jim and Maggie finally have that "will they or won't they" moment only to have things go in a really unfortunate direction. Will's job is on the line when some rather important information about a rather important night gets leaked to the tabloids, all while Will lay in a hospital bed from a rather serious aliment.

I'm not going to spoil things for you. I AM going to tell you that this show has gotten better and better over the course of the season and this episode is no exception. Just when you think things are being settled, something else comes in to rattle the cage just a little bit more.

This episode is jovial, heartbreaking, inspiring and so much more. If Sorkin is to be remembered for one thing, let it be THE NEWSROOM.

ASUNDER - Review

If you are in a relationship, at some point you have thought about straying. You have looked at that person across the room and thought to yourself, "What if I was with them instead?"

Travis Legge's new short film, ASUNDER, answers that question, in the most bizarre way. Not that bizarre is bad.

I won't give away too much about the plot because it is a short film and I am going to stay as spoiler free as possible. Suffice to say that ASUNDER does a great job of lulling you into a comfortable spot, and then basically kicking you in the guts with a spike-toed  shoe.

The entire time, you don't know if what you are seeing is entirely real and that kind of atmosphere, along with the way it was shot, really makes for an enjoyable short film.

With every good thing there are things that pop up that aren't. In this case they are really limited to just one. Acting. While most of the cast is amazing in their roles, one character's performance seems kind of forced and takes you out of the experience just a little bit. I'll let you watch the short and find out for yourself who I am talking about.

ASUNDER is on Amazon right now and when you purchase (or rent) it, the short comes with a slew of other works by Legge, most available on the internet except for TAXIDERMY, which is a very well done short about how twisted love can really become, and EVENT INVITATION written by Legge and directed by Myke Wilson reminding us all to be careful of who we make fun of, it may come back to bite us in the end.

All of the films are really well done and worth your money.

You can purchase or rent ASUNDER on AMAZON.  JUST CLICK HERE

Tony Scott (1944 - 2012)

They always say, "you don't know what you got till it's gone."

There is nothing more true than that statement tonight. Tonight we lost a truly amazing filmmaker in Tony Scott.

One of his films, TRUE ROMANCE, really had a profound effect on me. It showed me that there is such a thing as true love and I have been looking for my Alabama ever since.

But I took that for granted. I focused on the big budget flashy films, and listed the people who directed those films as inspiration.

I never talked about how much TRUE ROMANCE meant to me. Or the amazing job that he did on the film, until now. When it's too late. After he's long gone.

It may seem fleeting, and very ill timed, but thank you Tony. You changed my life and I never even acknowledged it. Rest in Peace.

This scene is just beautiful.
