Svengoolie

If you don't know who Svengoolie is you are really missing out on something utterly amazing. There have been other horror hosts but Svengoolie has been on the air for as long as I've been alive.

I remember he scared the living death right out of me when I was younger and watching him on the old television. Then as I entered high school I kind of stopped watching the things of my youth and loss touch with Sven..

Then I was in a local comic book store a few years later and they had a small black and white television with rabbit ears showing a fuzzy episode of Svengoolie. All the love I had for the show as a child came rushing back.

Leading to today and the photo you see above. It's really something amazing. To me at least. As I write this I'm watching Sven on MeTV. He's showing Curse of the Werewolf and I'm loving every minute.

Matt Smith Isn't Done Yet

Sometimes, when you are having a bad day, something AMAZING happens on the interweb and your mood instantly changes. No, I don't mean that every episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is on Netflix Instant (although that's pretty awesome). I mean the news coming down the pipe about Matt Smith and the rumor that he was done portraying The Doctor on the much loved BBC show, Doctor Who.

The rumor started with Smith told an interviewer that he would love to see what Los Angeles is about, but he has another year of Doctor Who first.

Then we come to find out from Smith, while promoting the Doctor Who Series Six DVD, that it couldn't be further from the truth.

"We work very long hours every day for nine months. The schedule is pretty brutal, but I'd never complain about it. I love playing this role, and I don't want to give it up anytime soon," he said.

"I feel very lucky. In the current climate for actors, I'd never say, 'This is too much' - quite the opposite, in fact. I'd say, 'Bring it on'."

So, while down the road we will all weep at the regeneration into another version of The Doctor, for the time being, Matt Smith is in it for a good, long while.

Kart Driver

As I am sure most anyone who reads my blog knows, I am a mark for the horror story. I love horror movies from Dracula in 1931, all the way up to Insidious in the here and now.

One of the suppliers to my love of horror has been Drew Daywalt. The above video is his addition to the Epictober Film Festival through G4 Films. KART DRIVER is an original take on the war between Mario and Donkey Kong with rather gory results.

If you haven't had a chance to check out anything by Drew, then head over to his YouTube Channel. He recently uploaded the entire run of his web series Camera Obscura which is some awesome stuff, I must say.

In other news, those who have followed my exploits for awhile may remember my tenure as host of The Ron Show (Who else would host a show named after me? Ron Burgandy perhaps)

Well,, the show is coming back in podcast form and going back to more of an interview show. That should be coming hopefully in the next month or so.

This will NOT effect my film making exploits. This is just something that I really love to do and want to share it with the folks on the interwebs.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween, we start production on our next short, "Nightmare in the Driveway" on November 5th (with apologies to Richard Matheson) and it should be a lot of fun...except for those who hate clowns. That might be something you should think about.

xo

MO - The Not So Criterion Collection

A few years ago, Mo Johnson came on the scene and while he made quite a few people laugh, he also offended some folks. What do YOU think? Would you like to see more of him?
