Ron VS Match One: Thor vs Superman

Welcome to the first match up in the RON VS series here at ronpurtee.com! I will be pitting two iconic characters up against each other and YOU the fans decide who would win. I will put up a new one every Monday with the winner being announced the previous day. So here we go, with the first match up!

THOR: Not only is he in a film that has broken box office records, but he is also a founding member of the Avengers, the son of Odin, half brother to Loki and what? Oh yeah The God of Thunder.

SUPERMAN: The Last Son of Krypton was rocketed to Earth after his planet was destroyed and raised in a small Kansas town. He now fights for truth, justice and a bunch of other things. He is damn near impossible to beat. Sans a small green rock and magic.

So who will win? Will the Odinson be able to topple the Last Son of Krypton? Or will Superman defeat the God of Thunder in an epic fashion?

The Avengers: A Review

I'm not the first person to post a review of the new Avengers film. I'm not reinventing the wheel by any means, but I really have to get this off my chest.

Like most geeks, I went into this film with a lot of hype. Every clip I saw online got me more and more excited to sit in the theater with countless others who have been waiting just like me.

It was TOTALLY worth the wait.

I will try to avoid spoilers for folks who didn't go to a midnight screening, or have gone to a screening.

STORY
This is really the biggest part of a super-hero film in my estimation and the Avengers did NOT disappoint in that department. Some might argue that it was a pretty standard set up and delivery and I can't say that it wasn't. However there were bits in the film where there were really amazing reveals and little nuances that really made the flick shine in the story department.

CHARACTERS
Everyone. And I mean EVERYONE was amazing in this film. They really fit into the roles they portrayed. Everyone shined. Gun to my head, if I had to pick folks who out shined every one else? I would have to say Mark Ruffalo and Tom Hiddleston. Ruffalo really played the almost mousey Dr Bruce Banner in a way that we haven't seen on film before and the way he would refer to his "other half" was damn near perfect.

Tom Hiddleston played LOKI to damn near perfection. His maniacal nature and almost glee in which he lays waste to almost everything in his path is such a pleasure to watch.

OVERALL
Joss Whedon has made all the geeks in the world a very happy man for so long. He really overachieves when it comes to The Avengers. Also, if you stay after the credits you are treated to not one but TWO extra scenes. One is a throwback to a funny moment in the film, the other hopefully sets up things for the sequel with an AMAZINGLY huge villain.

I know this has been short, disjointed and overall kind of crappy but I really had to get it off my chest. This film has made me want to start reading comics again, so I'm off to the shop to grab some Avengers books. Can't wait for the video game tie in...
