THIS IS THE END: A Review

I'm going to start this review very plainly and succinctly. I do not remember laughing as hard as I did during THIS IS THE END as I have in a long, long time.

The story is simple. Jay comes into town to hang out with Seth, and Seth takes him to James Franco's party, filled with celebrities from Rhianna, to McLovin and Michael Cera. We also find Jonah Hill, and Craig Robinson there to almost round out the cast. Seems pretty simple right? Well, then the rapture begins and the real hilarity begins.

They start to ration out the remaining supplies until their rescue when they find in the morning, Danny McBride, eating a good portion of what they have left.

I'm not going to get into more details because the ending is priceless and the cameos are hilarious. I won't give away the identity of the "Gimp" because it may make certain folks cry. Some with laughter, other legitimate tears.

The real stand outs of the film are Michael Cera in his limited scenes that make you pee from laughing so hard and Craig Robinson who just steals every scene he is in.

Now this may not be for everyone. It's a Seth Rogen movie, so you kind of know what you are getting into from the start but this is by far the funniest one that he has been in.

This is totally worth a viewing.

HATCHET III: A Review

Going into this film I had amazingly high hopes. I heard it was darker, and had a bit of a more serious tone to it and I like that with my slashers. I was also very curious about the job that first time director, BJ McDonnell, would do with the property now that Adam Green has seemingly stepped down as director.

It was darker, and it did have a much more serious tone to it and I absolutely love the job that BJ did on the film. That being said, the movie lacked something rather important; a script. Now don't get me wrong, there are the witty comments and banter between characters, but it just seemed like the same ol', retreaded slasher schtick.

However, I can honestly say that this, far and away, the best looking slasher film that I have EVER seen. EVER. And a sequence between Victor and a SWAT team was one of the coolest segments of the film.

It's not something that is gonna change the world, or re-invent the wheel, but, baring glaring script issues, its a fun little horror flick that looks amazing. McDonnell shows that you can make something look epic on a smaller budget if you know what you are doing and he does.

So if you're a fan of the genre, you will enjoy this, but don't try and convert your friends with it.

PAY NO MIND - a short film

Recently, my grandfather suffered a stroke. If that's not bad enough, he was already dealing with onset dementia. From what we gather, the stroke didn't help much. This short film not only gives a small account of what he's gone through, but my own personal fears.

It's been called, "effective and affecting".  I give you, PAY NO MIND.
